Hangin' em up.

I'm going to be hanging up by blogging skates, and moving full time to Twitter. It just takes too much time to blog, and the people who do follow my opinions, etc have all begun to do so solely from Twitter.

Let's keep this short, though. If you're interested in keeping up with me, follow me on Twitter! @StolzHockey !!! If not, then have a good life and see you on the flip side :)

Seattle Thunderbirds vs. Kelowna Rockets - January 27th, 2012.

I must apologize for how long it's been since I last blogged on here. If you are indeed reading this (not likely), and find yourself craving useless Kelowna Rockets and Vancouver Canucks facts/stats/etc, just swing over to my Twitter account (@StolzHockey) and I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied.

Now onto the topic at hand: The Thunderbirds are in town tonight! Both teams have experienced pretty exciting news in the last couple days: Kelowna's Colton Sissons has just been named Team Captain of Team Orr at the Top Prospects Game (hosted in Kelowna) on January 31st and February 1st. Colton becomes the first Kelowna Rocket ever to Captain a Top Prospects team. Seattle's goaltender Calvin Pickard just established a new Western Hockey League record for career saves on January 22nd against the Vancouver Giants.

Breakdown: Kelowna (21-23-5) is 6-4-0 in their last 10 games, and has won two straight. Seattle (17-26-2) is 1-8-1 in their last 10 games, and has lost four straight. The Thunderbirds have lost 10 of their last 11 games.

Top Scorers: Kelowna's Shane McColgan has 48 points (13 goals, 35 assists) in 48 games. Seattle's Burke Gallimore has 27 points (17 goals, 10 assists) in 45 games.

Kelowna Players to Watch: #19 Brett Bulmer (Drafted in the 2nd Round, 39th overall, by the Minnesota Wild in 2010), #18 Shane McColgan (Drafted in the 5th Round, 134th overall, by the New York Rangers in 2011), Colton Sissons (Ranked 14th among North Americans in Central Scouting's Mid-Term Report), and Damon Severson (Ranked 46th among North Americans in Central Scouting's Mid-Term Report).

Red Deer Rebels vs. Kelowna Rockets - November 9th, 2011.

Player to watch from Kelowna: Shane McColgan. Shane has scored in 12 of his last 14 games, and currently sits in the 32nd spot in the WHL scoring race. (19 points in 16 games)
Player to watch from Red Deer: Matt Dumba. MyNHLDraft.com has Dumba picked to go 5th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh, while International Scouting Services has him pegged at #6 overall. Matt won the Jim Piggot Memorial Trophy as the WHL's 2010/2011 Rookie of the Year. Last year he had 26 points in 62 games, and this year he's on pace to come near the 60 point plateau.

Putting the Foil On (First Blog)

A wise man once said, "Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something."

I'm not sure which category I fit into, but after many pleas by my beautiful girlfriend to start a blog and stop bombarding her with useless Hockey knowledge; I have finally caved.

About myself? I'm one of the biggest supporters of the Vancouver Canucks and Kelowna Rockets you'll probably ever meet. My family has been season ticket holders with the Kelowna Rockets since they first moved to Kelowna back in the 1995-1996 season. I grew up idolizing Jason Deleurme, Scott Hannan, and Scott Parker in the 90s. I've had the pleasure of watching Josh Gorges raise the Memorial Cup in 2004, along with Ryan Cuthbert (2003), Tyler Spurgeon (2005), and Colin Long (2009) raising the (now) Ed Chynoweth Cup. Looking back at all of the players' names on those Championship teams, and how well they are doing at the Professional level, really makes you appreciate what we have here in Kelowna.

I'm not sure if this blog will ever amount to anything, but in the mean time I will continue sharing my thoughts with whomever is willing to read.
